The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation to Declare

August 22nd

National "Rose Brucia Stranger Safety Awareness Day"
Foundation to introduce free educational awareness program nationwide

ISLANDIA, NY – August 15, 2011 – The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation announced today that Monday, August 22 will be declared “Rose Brucia Stranger Safety Awareness Day” a nationally recognized day of stranger safety education and the official introduction of its free educational awareness program. Details on the national program rollout will be discussed at a 4 p.m. press conference during the foundation's inaugural golf outing at Calverton Lakes in Calverton, NY.

“The foundation has been tirelessly working all year to get to this point, and we are elated the time has come where we can officially announce August 22 as national Rose Brucia Stranger Safety Awareness Day,” said Matthew J. Barbis, founder and chairman of The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation. “We would like to thank Congressmen Paul Ryan and Steve Israel for their support of H. Res 302. It is an honor to offer our free educational program to every elementary school teacher in the nation … a first of its kind.”

With the goal of protecting and educating all children against the threat of abduction through its Stranger Safety Awareness Program, The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation aims to reduce the number of child abductions by raising awareness and teaching the importance of stranger safety.

“Today starts a new chapter in educating children about stranger safety. With a click of a mouse, the knowledge of what to do in an attempted abduction can be taught in every classroom and home,” said Sue Herera, CNBC co-anchor and national spokesperson for The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation. “As a parent, it is imperative we give our children the tools to stay safe. We cannot be with our children every minute of every day and that’s why it is so important our children are educated on this very important topic. The Rose Brucia Stranger Safety Awareness Program is just another layer of protection we can provide our children. Knowledge is power.”

The Stranger Safety Awareness Program is a comprehensive multi-media curriculum designed to engage elementary-aged children in a process of developing a self-awareness framework to assist them in their own safety as it relates to strangers. The curriculum is based upon the key concepts of awareness, safety and trust. All materials to assist its implementation into current Health & Safety Standards are included for ease of integration.

Beginning August 22, 2011, parents and teachers may visit the foundation’s website at www.rosebrucia.org/ourprogram.asp and download Volume 1 of the Stranger Safety Awareness Program free of charge, for a comprehensive resource guide, which includes short and long-term objectives, lesson plans, scripts and tips on how to speak to your children about the dangers strangers may pose.

RYAN, ISRAEL INTRODUCE BRUCIA STRANGER SAFETY AWARENESS RESOLUTION

June 27, 2011 WASHINGTON DC –Protecting and educating our young children against the threats of abduction is the goal of the stranger safety resolution that First District Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) and New York Second District Congressman Steve Israel (D-NY) introduced on June 13th in the House of Representatives.  The resolution is currently pending before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee.

The Resolution, H.Res. 302– “Rose Brucia Stranger Safety Awareness Day”, would support August 22nd as a national day of recognition; where all schools can go online and download a free curriculum designed to inform and empower children on keeping themselves safe from stranger abductions.

Under the current system, there is no stranger safety program in our nation's schools. The resolution will help raise awareness on this curriculum. This program teaches children from the ages of five through eleven, the awareness and the tools they need to assist them in their own safety as it relates to strangers.

“As the father of three young children, I certainly understand the importance of educating our nation’s youth about how they can avoid the dangers presented by strangers”, said Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI). “Keeping our children safe and secure is a community-wide undertaking which is why I’m glad to sponsor H.Res. 302 and join all of the teachers, parents, and neighborhood leaders across the country who play such important roles in this ongoing effort.”

Utilizing a multi-media platform, the Rose Brucia Stranger Safety Awareness Program is dynamic, informative and fun for the students. Utilizing Health and Safety Standards established by New York State, the program is designed to reflect these principals consistently throughout all the lessons. The core messages are presented in simple DVD format with individual lesson plans written around each show. They are designed to deliver vital stranger safety concepts to children in a non-threatening, yet thought provoking manner. Each lesson plan includes a checklist of short-term and long-term objectives for the teacher to use as a guide, a list of materials needed to teach each lesson as well as summary statements and suggested homework assignments. Where appropriate, worksheets are also supplied for classroom use. Teachers will be able to use each open-ended lesson plan at their discretion throughout the entire school year.

“As a father, I know that there is nothing more important than keeping our children safe. The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation is working hard to ensure our schools and communities are informing and preparing children for any situation. I commend them on their efforts,” said Rep. Israel.

“Declaring a national day plays an important role in our mission to reducing the number of child abductions,” said Matthew J. Barbis, founder and chairman of The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation, "On August 22, every elementary school teacher in the country will have access to Volume 1 of our multi-media stranger safety awareness program, free of charge. It is imperative to give our children the tools they need to stay safe!”
