THE ROSE BRUCIA EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION TO HOLD FIRST ANNUAL
STRANGER SAFETY AWARENESS DAY
Proclamation of Day to be Announced by Nassau and Suffolk Counties

Islandia, NY – July 27, 2010 – The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation is pleased to announce its first annual Stranger Safety Awareness Day on Sunday, August 22. The event, which is being sponsored by St. Joseph’s College, will take place at a 2 p.m. press conference prior to that evening’s LI Ducks Game at Suffolk County Sports Park in Central Islip, NY.

“We are very excited that both Suffolk and Nassau Counties are recognizing and supporting our mission to reduce child abductions,” said Matthew J. Barbis, founder and chairman of The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation. “It has been our focus to help other families avoid a personal tragedy.”

An official proclamation for the day will be announced at the news conference by representatives from the Town of Islip and both Suffolk and Nassau County governments. Senator Brian X. Foley (D-Blue Point) will also speak on pending senate resolution J6523, which will declare August 22 Rose Brucia Stranger Safety Awareness Day for New York State. Following the announcements, volunteers from The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation will be handing out free DNA kits and Stranger Safety activity books at the park.

“Our goal is to have Stranger Safety Awareness Day recognized on a national level by next year,” said Mr. Barbis. “Ultimately, we want to launch our national DVD and have it made available to every school district in the United States, whereby creating more awareness for abduction prevention in general.”
