ACTOR KEVIN SORBO JOINS THE ROSE BRUCIA
Stranger Safety Public Awareness Campaign
ISLANDIA, NY – SEPTEMBER 29, 2010 – The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation is pleased to announce that actor Kevin Sorbo has signed on as a celebrity spokesperson to endorse its Stranger Safety Public Awareness Campaign through a series of educational public service announcements.
“I couldn’t be more pleased to name such a fine individual as one of our celebrity spokespeople for the Stranger Safety Public Awareness Campaign,” said Matthew J. Barbis, founder and chairman of The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation. “Kevin Sorbo is a positive role model to the young people of this country and his commitment to our cause only helps strengthen the message and mission of the Foundation.”
A successful television actor of more than 25 years, Sorbo is best known for his title role in the hit series, Hercules, The Legendary Journeys. Following the success of Hercules, Sorbo starred in the lead role of Captain Dylan Hunt in the Gene Roddenberry fictional series Andromeda. He has also made numerous guest appearances on popular TV shows like Two and a Half Men, Just Shoot Me, According to Jim and the new Hawaii Five-O, among many others. Sorbo’s movie debut came in 1997 when he starred in the Universal Studio fantasy film Kull, the Conqueror. He has since starred in 30 other films, including “Meet the Spartans,” the independent hit, “What If…” and “Soul Surfer,” opening in spring 2011 and distributed by Affirm Films, a Sony Pictures Entertainment Company.
Sorbo has served as a spokesperson since 1997 for the nonprofit organization A World Fit For Kids, which provides drug, gang and dropout prevention education to teens through mentoring programs. The organization received the Gold Star from California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Office as the best after school program in the State of California. Sorbo was also named national spokesperson as successor to Gov. Schwarzenegger for The Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit organization working to ensure that all children have access to affordable, quality afterschool programs.
“Mr. Sorbo’s commitment to mentoring America’s youth is a testament to his positive influence on society, and we are confident that he will be able to help us create national awareness about abduction prevention and education through our Stranger Safety Awareness Program,” said Barbis.
